Shawn Wang (swyx) is a software engineer, writer, community builder, and angel investor based in San Francisco. He is the co-founder and CEO of AI Engineer and co-host of Latent Space, one of the tech industry’s leading technical AI podcasts.

He is widely celebrated for defining modern AI developer culture, most notably by coining the term and authoring the viral manifesto “The Rise of the AI Engineer”. He also pioneered the foundational “Learn in Public” philosophy, which transformed how tens of thousands of developers build careers. Formerly leading Developer Experience at Temporal, AWS, and Netlify, he also founded Smol AI and advises frontier AI companies including Cognition.
